Negotiations continue

Kaiser Permanente offers proposal that would provide for more employee input on patient scheduling when possible.

This message was sent to Alliance-represented employees on Friday, November 7.

National and local bargaining continued with the Alliance of Health Care Unions this week, November 4 and 5, in Los Angeles. Both parties continued to negotiate on a number of key interests with support from the mediator.

We offered proposals addressing some of these interests, including one proposing that good-faith efforts will be made to solicit and consider employee input into patient scheduling when possible and consistent with the urgency of the situation. This proposal builds on the staffing-related tentative agreements previously reached through joint recommendations from the Patient Care and Staffing subcommittee.

In an uncertain economic climate and with slowing job growth nationwide, our wage offer remains the strongest in our history of national bargaining — a 21.5% across-the-board increase for all Alliance-represented employees over the next 4 years. When factoring in step increases, local adjustments, and annual compounding on top of these guaranteed wage increases, the total average increase we are offering is approximately 30% over 4 years.

Try our online wage estimator — just enter your current base hourly rate to get a personalized estimate of your potential hourly pay increase based on the across-the-board wage increases and local adjustments in our current offer. Your actual increase could be higher than the examples shown since the tool does not include all pay factors such as shift differentials, longevity, and step increases.

You’ll need to be logged into the KP network to access the tool. For the best experience, locate your current base hourly rate here before using the estimator. Please be sure to read the Q&A and disclaimers provided in the estimator tool.

But it’s not all about wages

We agree that wages are important — but they are only a part of the industry-leading total compensation we provide. Your total compensation at Kaiser Permanente includes what we pay you — and what we pay for you.

While millions of Americans face losing their health care coverage in the coming year because they can’t afford it, many workers across the country are expected to face a 6% to 7% increase in what they already pay out-of-pocket for health coverage. KP covers 99% of this increase for you, or $30,000 per family covered – helping ensure that you keep low-to-no-cost medical coverage for you and your family, and more dollars in your wallet.

What’s next

KP and the Alliance have agreed to continue local bargaining the week of November 10 and will meet again for national bargaining November 17 through 19. We will continue to keep you informed.

We deeply respect the work you do and the care you provide every day. Please take a moment to think about the facts and ask your union representatives to accept this strong offer — so you can have peace of mind to fully focus on the future and the patients and members who count on us.

Thank you for your continued commitment to our shared mission.
