Momentum at local tables

Here are the facts about progress at local bargaining.

This message was sent to Alliance-represented employees on Friday, December 26.

You may have heard Kaiser Permanente isn’t bargaining — that’s not true.

As you know, we did pause national bargaining because of the incident on December 14 with a United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals leader. We’re working to resolve issues and resume bargaining, but UNAC/UHCP has refused to share information we have requested that the union claims would support its position. Without cooperation, good-faith bargaining is compromised. To return to the bargaining table with UNAC/UHCP, this issue must be resolved.

Despite this need to pause national bargaining, we have been continuing negotiations at the local bargaining tables with each of the Alliance unions who were not involved with this incident. In fact, we didn’t leave the location of national bargaining last week, because we remained in local bargaining with other unions.

Here’s the reality:

  • We’ve held over 1,000 local and national bargaining sessions to date.

  • 56 tentative agreements have been reached nationally.

  • On Tuesday, December 23, after 2 intensive weeks at the table, we reached agreements with 5 Oregon Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals units in Northwest, closing all local Alliance negotiations there.

  • More than half of 53 Alliance bargaining units have completed bargaining for local agreements; Kaiser Permanente is continuing to engage with Hawaii Nurses and Healthcare Professionals, Kaiser Permanente Nurse Anesthetists Association, UNITE HERE, and United Food and Commercial Workers
