Update on Alliance national bargaining

Negotiations focus on pay, benefits, and remaining staffing proposals.

Kaiser Permanente and the Alliance of Health Care Unions met September 9 to 13 in Los Angeles to continue negotiations on a new national agreement. The current agreement is set to expire on September 30, 2025.

One new tentative agreement was reached — measuring the implementation of existing staffing, backfill, budgeting, and capacity-building commitments in the current national agreement.

Kaiser Permanente and the Alliance have reached 45 tentative agreements so far.

During this session, we enhanced our economic offer, with proposed wage increases totaling 20% over the 4 years of the contract, education fund increases to support employees in growing their careers, enhanced benefits for new retirees, and more.

Negotiations continued on national topics including additional economic considerations, staffing practices, and the Performance Sharing Plan (PSP).

The Common Issues Committee — the full bargaining team — reached consensus on a joint recommendation from the Staffing and Patient Care subgroup that resulted in the new tentative agreement.

Kaiser Permanente and Alliance representatives also continued to negotiate local contracts, with more than 50 sessions taking place at the same time as national bargaining. Finalizing local bargaining is a critical step toward securing a new national agreement.
