Bargaining with CNA begins at Los Angeles Medical Center

This message from Marcel Delhommeau, SVP, Human Resources, Kaiser Permanente in Southern California and Hawaii; and Joyce Leido, MSN, RN, chief operating officer, Los Angeles Medical Center, was sent to CNA-represented employees at the Los Angeles Medical Center on July 8.

As contract negotiations began today, we want to thank you for what you bring every day to our patients, members, and one another. Kaiser Permanente is a place where nurses from every background choose to build their careers, something we are proud of and committed to.

Not every health care organization operates the way we do. We are the largest nonprofit health system in California — every decision we make is made for our patients and our communities. Our mission shapes everything, including how we show up for each other. And it is what we are committed to honoring at the bargaining table.

Our ongoing journey toward Magnet redesignation at the LA Medical Center is yours — a reflection of the nursing excellence, exceptional patient care, and professional practice you bring every single day.

As we begin bargaining, here’s what we want you to know:

• We recognize how much this matters to you and your family. Kaiser Permanente nurses are among the best-paid caregivers in the country, and our goal is an agreement that keeps it that way.
• We aim to pay at or on average 10% above the markets in which our employees work. For our CNA-represented nurses in the Los Angeles Medical Center, our current pay is on average more than 21% above the local market.
• We are committed to protecting your benefits. Kaiser Permanente is one of the only health care organizations in the country that offers both a defined-benefit pension and a 401(k) with employer contributions, in addition to low or no-cost health coverage.
• You will hear from us directly. This process is important to all of us, and we'll provide timely, accurate updates as negotiations progress.

We believe that by working together, we can reach an agreement that supports our nurses, our patients, and the long-term strength of Los Angeles Medical Center.
