We celebrate our employees this Labor Day

Kaiser Permanente has a long, proud history of working with unions.

Every day is a day to honor and share our appreciation for the people of Kaiser Permanente. But Labor Day allows us to pause and recognize all our employees who work tirelessly to serve our members, patients, and communities.

Your commitment to our mission results in better care outcomes, improves health in our communities, and makes Kaiser Permanente among the best places to work and receive care.

The Labor Day federal holiday is deeply rooted in organized labor. It stems from the efforts of unions, activists, and workers who have contributed to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being.

Kaiser Permanente’s roots with organized labor also run deep. Our organization was founded to provide health care for the unionized workers building ships for World War II. Today, unions represent about 80% of our workforce. We’ve become the largest employer of represented health care professionals in the country.

We’ve also operated one of the largest and most successful labor-management partnerships in the country since 1997. The success of our Labor Management Partnership demonstrates our enduring commitment to working together to solve issues, support our workforce, and improve care for our patients and members.

In 2025, as we celebrate 80 years of Kaiser Permanente, we acknowledge the role labor has had in our history. We also recognize the immeasurable contributions of the people of Kaiser Permanente. Throughout our history, your care, skill, commitment, innovative thinking, and diverse perspectives have shaped who we are — and will continue to shape where we are going.

This Labor Day, we celebrate you. Your efforts make a difference every day, and we are grateful for everything you do to deliver high-quality, affordable care and service to our members, patients, customers, and communities. Thank you.
