Greg A. Adams, chair and chief executive officer of Kaiser Permanente, has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious honorary societies.

Founded in 1780 by John Adams and John Hancock, the academy honors excellence and brings together leaders from across disciplines to explore new ideas, address issues of national and global significance, and help shape the future.

Adams was named among 252 new members elected in conjunction with the academy’s recognition of America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. Other inductees include actor and filmmaker Jodie Foster, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, and actor, dancer, and singer Rita Moreno. Adams joins a distinguished group of past honorees, including Albert Einstein, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., and Nelson Mandela.

His election reflects more than individual achievement. It signals the growing importance of integrated, value-based care in improving health outcomes and expanding access to care across the country.

“I’m honored to join the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and to be part of a community committed to tackling the most important issues of our time,” Adams said. “At Kaiser Permanente, we believe high-quality, affordable health care should be accessible to all. This recognition reflects that shared commitment and the work still ahead. I look forward to collaborating with fellow academy members to help bring this vision to more people and communities across the country.”

Under Adams’ leadership, Kaiser Permanente continues to advance a model of care that integrates coverage and care delivery, focuses on prevention and total health, and improves outcomes at scale.

Adams was named one of the most influential people in health care by Time magazine in its TIME100 Health list. He was also named one of Modern Healthcare’s most influential people in health care for 6 years in a row, ranking number 2 in 2025. Adams is on the board of directors for AHIP and is both a governor and steward in the Global Health and Healthcare Community at the World Economic Forum.
