Kaiser Permanente celebrated during a ceremony on September 16, 2024, that it will soon finish framing its brand-new Kaiser Permanente Lakewood Medical Offices in Colorado. The new building will feature significant enhancements for patients and staff, including increased urgent care room capacity, larger exam rooms, and more services under a single roof.
The 3-story Lakewood Medical Offices will be one of the first medical facilities of its kind constructed using a new environmentally sustainable modular building method, which will speed up construction, reduce environmental impacts, and keep costs lower.
Construction is underway, with doors expected to open in 2026. The new facility is under construction next to the existing medical offices, which will eventually be demolished.
This new building will enhance the health care experience for our members, said Jeffrey Krawcek, MD, president and executive medical director of Kaiser Permanente in Colorado.
“The design of the new Lakewood Medical Offices will allow us to build on the value-based care model we brought to Colorado more than 50 years ago,” Dr. Krawcek said. “We’re bringing in more services under a single roof, making it easier for patients and staff to navigate care seamlessly. And with the new green design features, this building will further our mission of improving the health of the communities we serve.”
Generations of Lakewood, Colorado, residents have called Kaiser Permanente’s Lakewood offices their medical home since the building opened in 1972. Approximately 40,000 members use the Lakewood facility as their primary medical home.
“This was one of Kaiser Permanente’s first buildings in the state, and our care teams have proudly served generations of growing families here for 52 years,” said Mike Ramseier, regional president of Kaiser Permanente in Colorado. “Our new Kaiser Permanente Lakewood Medical Offices are a symbol of our continued commitment to care for the Lakewood community as this area grows for decades to come.”
As part of an environmentally friendly, modular construction method, many individual components of the building will be manufactured off-site, assembled into sections, and installed at the construction site.
Modular construction will decrease transport emissions, speed up the building process, and cut landfill waste by 50%. It’s also projected to save approximately $10 million in construction costs.
Solar power will account for 40% of the building’s annual energy needs, and the facility will have 10 electric vehicle charging stations. The use of native plants and grasses for landscaping will reduce outside water use by more than 50%. Water-efficient fixtures inside will reduce water use by more than 25%.
The building also will use low-emitting materials for improved indoor air quality.
The new Lakewood Medical Offices will offer several enhancements for patients, medical providers, and staff, including:
