If you have an ongoing health condition, you know it can be tricky to keep your medications straight. Our improved online pharmacy tools help keep our members on track.
When Marina Ashworth joined Kaiser Permanente as a Medicare member in 2015, she was a little nervous about using the kp.org website. She was used to checking off all her health care tasks in-person, including picking up her prescriptions at a pharmacy on her way home.
“I had insurance my whole working life, but it was the kind where you had to go to the pharmacy to get your prescriptions refilled — I’d call ahead of time, and then go in and pick them up,” Ashworth said.
But then Rebekah De Sota, RN, a member of Marina’s care team in Colorado, showed her how easy it is to use the kp.org website. Marina learned that with a few clicks, she could refill her prescriptions, pay for them online, and then have them delivered to her home.
I don’t have to call the doctor’s office to get my prescriptions refilled; I don’t have to go to my pharmacy anymore. I didn’t know what an inconvenience all of that was until I had Kaiser Permanente. Marina Ashworth
“I don’t have to call the doctor’s office to get my prescriptions refilled; I don’t have to go to my pharmacy anymore and wait for it to open,” Ashworth said. “I didn’t know what an inconvenience all of that was until I had Kaiser Permanente, which is purely convenient.”
With 3 ongoing health conditions — diabetes, asthma, and high blood pressure — Ashworth has more than 10 prescriptions to help her manage her health. Some medications must be taken daily, while other dosages must be taken days apart. It can be a lot to manage, but the kp.org website helps Ashworth stay on track.
“I can go into the online pharmacy and look at all my prescriptions. They have a thing where you can click on medications that you want to have a reminder turned on,” Marina said. “You can click on the medication, and it tells you what your dosage is and what the doctor’s instructions were.”
The same online pharmacy tools Marina uses on kp.org are also available in the Kaiser Permanente mobile app. And, we recently updated the mobile app to give members an even better pharmacy experience.
