Investments in hospital expansion and new urgent care services will improve access and support growing community needs.
SEATTLE, Wash. — Kaiser Permanente announced new investments in Seattle and Everett designed to strengthen access to care and meet the evolving needs of communities across the Puget Sound region.
Kaiser Permanente plans to expand hospital capacity and clinical capabilities at Capitol Hill Medical Center while adding a new urgent care center at Everett Medical Center.
These investments support Kaiser Permanente's commitment to delivering high-quality, coordinated care and ensuring patients have access to the services they need closer to home.
By the end of 2027, Kaiser Permanente plans to further expand the hospital at Capitol Hill Medical Center, 201 16th Ave. E., with an additional 25 inpatient beds.
The expansion will bring hospital bed capacity from 18 to 43, including telemetry, medical–surgical, and intensive care unit beds.
"As our flagship campus and largest regional hub for care, the Capitol Hill Medical Center plays a vital role in caring for patients throughout Puget Sound," said Cynthia Dold, regional president of Kaiser Permanente Washington. "By expanding our hospital and enhancing our capabilities, we’re making it possible for more members who need hospital-based care to receive that at Kaiser Permanente — as we say: the right care, in the right place, at the right time.”
The investment strengthens a critical part of Kaiser Permanente's integrated care and coverage network serving Seattle and the surrounding region.
Dold also announced that Kaiser Permanente would evaluate options to bring both urgent and emergency care to members in Seattle. "We've heard clearly from our members that having urgent and emergency care options at Kaiser Permanente locations in Seattle is important to them. As we plan for the future, we're thoughtfully evaluating opportunities to expand primary, urgent, and emergency access and ensure we continue meeting the needs of the members and communities we serve," Dold said.
To address a significant access need in the north Puget Sound region, Kaiser Permanente plans to open a new urgent care department in 2027 within its Everett Medical Center at 2929 Pine St.
With extended hours and treatment for a wide range of illnesses and injuries, the urgent care unit will expand care access in Snohomish County while complementing the broader range of care and services available at the medical center, including primary care, more than 20 specialty care departments, pharmacy, and advanced imaging.
"We're pleased to deepen our commitment to the Everett community with this expansion. Everett has experienced tremendous growth in recent years, and we've heard clearly from our members and the community that greater access to urgent care close to home is needed,” said Dold. “Together, these investments reflect Kaiser Permanente's ongoing commitment to strengthening access to care, enhancing the patient experience, and building a health care organization that can meet the needs of the communities it serves today and into the future.
