Top honors for our commitment to stroke and heart care

Awards from the American Heart Association recognize our care facilities for following evidence-based guidelines that help patients get fast, effective care.

Heart disease and strokes cause more deaths in the United States than all cancers and accidents combined.

At Kaiser Permanente, our members are 33% less likely to lose years of life due to heart disease compared with nonmembers in their community.

That’s because our care teams work hard to help people keep their hearts healthy. If heart problems develop, our members can count on getting high-quality care from skilled doctors.

The American Heart Association recently recognized dozens of our hospitals for doing things right when it comes to heart and stroke care.

Commitment to best practices

The American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® program helps hospitals follow proven treatment guidelines for heart disease, stroke, and related conditions. It’s all about making sure patients get care that’s timely, consistent, and backed by science.

Hospitals can earn gold, silver, or bronze awards based on how well — and for how long — they meet quality standards.

Some hospitals also make the “honor roll” for hitting extra goals — like treating stroke patients faster or improving diabetes care.

Here’s how Kaiser Permanente performed for 2025:

  • 38 of our hospitals earned the Get With The Guidelines — Stroke Gold Plus award
  • 38 of our hospitals were named to the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll, recognizing their extra efforts in managing diabetes

We have 40 hospitals in California, Oregon, and Hawaii.

Power of our coordinated care

At Kaiser Permanente, our coordinated care model brings doctors, specialists, and health plans together. With everything under one roof, patients get seamless, connected care.

“Our coordinated model allows us to work across teams to get our members fast, effective treatment,” said Misha McKinney, vice president of clinical programs at Kaiser Permanente. “We’re also leaders in helping people control risk factors for heart disease.”

The American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines program has recognized high-performing hospitals for more than 20 years.

“This recognition highlights the commitment of our doctors, nurses, and other care team members,” McKinney added. “Their knowledge and dedication help patients get the right care quickly, especially when time is critical.”
