Just ask Tiffany Anonye. When her first baby was born in 2009, she wanted to breastfeed for the health benefits. But as a single, working mom, she struggled to make breastfeeding work.
At the time, she wasn’t a Kaiser Permanente member.
“My insurance didn’t offer much in the way of education and support,” she said. “I couldn’t afford an electric breast pump, so all I had was the manual pump they gave me at the hospital. It took so long to fill a bottle that my hand would cramp.”
Before long, she gave up and switched to formula.
“I felt alone,” she said.
