Moanalua Medical Center on Newsweek’s Best Maternity Hospitals list

Hospital scores high in reputation, patient experience, and quality metrics.

HONOLULU — Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center has been included on Newsweek’s list of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals 2025. The list can be viewed on Newsweek.com. Moanalua Medical Center is one of three hospitals in Hawaii to be named best for maternity care by Newsweek. It received a five-ribbon score representing high scores for reputation, patient experience, and quality metrics.

High-quality maternity care, provided from pregnancy through birth and postpartum, is key to the long-term health of newborns and women who give birth. This is the fourth year in a row Kaiser Permanente in Hawaii has been recognized for maternity excellence by Newsweek.

The ranking is based on three pillars.

  • Hospital quality metrics: Indicators relevant to maternity care, such as low rates of elective early deliveries and adhering to key safety protocols, were considered.
  • Patient experience survey: Available data from patient surveys was used to analyze the overall patient experience in the hospital.
  • Nationwide online survey: Health care professionals and hospital managers with knowledge about maternity processes, such as neonatal and perinatal doctors, nurses, and midwives, were asked to recommend leading maternity hospitals in the U.S.

Based on the results of the study, Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center is ecstatic to be recognized on Newsweek’s list of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals 2025.

“We’re honored that Newsweek and Statista have once again recognized Moanalua Medical Center for excellence in maternity care,” said Dr. Alexa Sueda, chief of obstetrics and gynecology at Kaiser Permanente in Hawaii. “This recognition reflects the continued dedication of our physicians, midwives, nurse practitioners, nurses, and staff to ensuring parents and their newborns receive safe, high-quality care throughout their journey.”
