DENVER — The word is out! Kaiser Permanente doctors are the top choice of other metro Denver doctors when it comes to whom they would trust most to care for themselves and their families.

A record 186 Kaiser Permanente physicians were named to 5280 magazine’s annual list of Top Doctors. They make up 28% of all the doctors on the list.

This is the first year the nominating and vetting process for 5280 Top Doctors was handled by Castle Connolly, which has been compiling nationwide lists of the best doctors across the country for 25 years. After a doctor is nominated, Castle Connolly’s physician-led team evaluates them based on multiple criteria, including:

  • Professional qualifications
  • Education
  • Hospital and faculty appointments
  • Research leadership
  • Professional reputations
  • Disciplinary history
  • Outcomes data (when available)
  • Interpersonal skills, such as listening and communicating effectively, demonstrating empathy, and instilling trust and confidence

Primary care doctors must be 8 years out of medical school, and specialists must be 10 years out of medical school to be eligible for the Top Doctor award.

“We’re proud of all our doctors who made the Top Doctors list,” said Mike Ramseier, regional president of Kaiser Permanente in Colorado. “They’re just a sample of all the physicians at Kaiser Permanente who dedicate themselves to making sure our members get the care they need to be their healthiest.”

Many doctors say that the ability to practice medicine the way they think it should be practiced is what drew them to Kaiser Permanente.

“Doctors choose to work at Kaiser Permanente because they get to practice quality, evidence-based medicine in an organization where they are supported by an entire team of colleagues,” said Jeff Krawcek, MD, president and executive medical director of Kaiser Permanente in Colorado. “Our primary care physicians, specialists, and health care teams work together to provide comprehensive care to our members. Working in a value-based model means that our patients benefit from our focus on quality, prevention, and collaboration across medical specialties, rather than having to navigate different silos of care on their own.”
