Our high-quality, compassionate care landed us on Newsweek’s 2025 list of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals.
Tiffany Anonye, shown with teenage son, Andrew, and baby, Alex, praised Kaiser Permanente’s maternity care: “It was like night and day compared to my first experience.”
Great service, excellent communication, and personalized care.
These are just a few aspects of the high-quality maternity care that landed 29 Kaiser Permanente hospitals on Newsweek’s 2025 list of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals.
Just ask Tiffany Anonye. She had always planned to give her first baby, born in 2009, the health benefits of breast milk. But as a single, working mom, she struggled to make breastfeeding work.
She also was not a Kaiser Permanente member at the time.
“My insurance didn’t offer much in the way of education and support,” she said. “I couldn’t afford an electric breast pump, so all I had was the manual pump they gave me at the hospital. It took so long to fill a bottle that my hand would cramp.”
Before long, she gave up and switched to formula.
“I felt alone on the journey,” she said.
But when you receive care at one of the best maternity hospitals in the nation, you’re not alone. You always have teams supporting your care and listening to your needs.
Fourteen years later, Anonye became pregnant again. This time she received pregnancy care at Kaiser Permanente.
“It was like night and day,” she said.
At prenatal appointments, Anonye’s ob-gyn asked her how she felt about breastfeeding and addressed her concerns. Online classes offered more guidance and support.
When baby Alex arrived, a nurse showed Anonye different breastfeeding positions and helped the infant latch on to her breast.

It’s this type of personalized, compassionate care — before, during, and after the birth — that parents and babies can expect from Kaiser Permanente. It’s also why many of our hospitals appear on Newsweek’s “best” list year after year.
The Newsweek list honors hospitals that provide high-quality care for pregnant patients and their babies during the entire maternity journey, including those important and often stressful weeks right after childbirth.
To create its list, Newsweek used:
“We’re proud to be recognized by Newsweek for providing comprehensive, respectful maternity care,” said Kari Carlson, MD, national clinical lead for obstetrics and gynecology at Kaiser Permanente. “Our team of doctors, midwives, nurses, specialists, and other health care professionals are experienced in customizing our high-quality pregnancy care to your unique needs.”
Most helpful for Anonye was the support she received from her lactation consultant.
“It feels like she was just as committed to making breastfeeding work as I was,” said Anonye. “I don’t think I could have made it on this journey without her.”
