HONOLULU — Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center has been named to Newsweek’s list of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals 2022. The hospitals on Newsweek’s best maternity hospitals list demonstrate the highest performance in the United States. The award is presented by Newsweek and Statista, the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider. Designated hospitals meet rigorous standards for excellence in maternity care — including low rates of cesarean section, episiotomy, and elective early delivery — and follow important protocols to protect moms and babies, among other measures.
This is the second year Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center has been recognized in Newsweek’s list of best maternity hospitals. For the past 7 years, Moanalua Medical Center has also been named one of America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics by Women’s Choice Award®.
“Our physicians, providers, nurses, and staff at Moanalua Medical Center are universally focused on providing exceptional maternity care,” said Mabel Wong, MD, chief of obstetrics and gynecology at Kaiser Permanente in Hawaii. “We’re honored to receive this recognition and to be able to offer mothers, babies, and families care that ranks among the best in the nation.”
The Family Birth Center at Moanalua Medical Center provides coordinated labor and delivery care in a safe and comfortable setting, facilitated by a team made up of the patient’s obstetrician-gynecologist, certified nurse-midwife, neonatologist, and other care providers. New mothers and their families enjoy a personalized birth experience with private delivery suites, mother-baby rooms, culturally sensitive practices, room service, and labor aids such as a hydrotherapy tub. Moanalua Medical Center’s state-of-the-art level 3 neonatal intensive care unit is available for babies needing extra care and all NICU suites are private so parents can stay with their babies 24 hours a day.
Newsweek and Statista invited over 10,000 medical professionals to participate in the survey. Only 350 institutions nationwide were recognized on America’s Best Maternity Hospitals 2022 list.
