October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month and this year marks the 30th anniversary of the ADA — the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 — a groundbreaking piece of civil rights legislation that sought to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of community life, including employment. We’re proud that Kaiser Permanente was recognized for the fourth consecutive year by the National Organization on Disability as a 2020 Leading Disability Employer. This honor acknowledges Kaiser Permanente’s commitment to strengthen its workforce by providing support to individuals with disabilities. Organizations are recognized collectively — not ranked individually — based on results from the National Organization on Disability’s disability and veteran inclusion benchmarking survey.

Michelle Camicia, national co-chair of KPability, Kaiser Permanente’s business resource group for employees with disabilities and their advocates, said, “We are honored to receive this recognition from the National Organization on Disability for our leadership in supporting a disability-positive workplace.”

She added, “The ADA broke down barriers to opportunity for millions of American workers, and Kaiser Permanente continues that work through our commitment to disability inclusion and our disability advocacy work, both internally and for the communities we serve.”

With over 800 members, KPability provides leadership in executing Kaiser Permanente’s commitment to a workplace that welcomes individuals with disabilities at all levels of the organization, ensuring fully accessible and disability competent health care for all, and honoring the right to self-determination and independence for our members with disabilities in the communities we serve.
