The National Committee for Quality Assurance Quality Compass report recognized Kaiser Permanente’s plan in Hawaii for several measures of quality care.
HONOLULU — Kaiser Permanente Hawaii’s Medicare plan performed in the top 10 nationally on several measures of quality care, according to the National Committee for Quality Assurance Quality Compass® report.
Out of more than 300 Medicare health plans nationally, Kaiser Permanente was a top performer in 15 measures of care, including breast cancer screening, colorectal cancer screening, and comprehensive diabetes care — glucose testing. Additionally, Kaiser Permanente was the highest performer in the state for 34 measures of care, including colorectal cancer screening, comprehensive diabetes care relating to blood pressure control, osteoporosis management, and avoidance of opioids at high dosage.
“We’re proud to be recognized for the high level of care we provide our Medicare patients,” said Linda Puu, RN, vice president of quality, safety, and care experience at Kaiser Permanente in Hawaii. “Our focus on preventive care and chronic disease management is particularly important for keeping our ‘kupuna’ healthy and helping everyone in our community thrive,” Puu said, using the Hawaiian word for “elders”.
Kaiser Permanente serves more than 32,000 Medicare members in Hawaii who are age 65 and older or who have a disability that qualifies for Medicare. It is the only plan in Hawaii to receive 5 out of 5 stars, the highest possible rating, in a report of plan performance from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for 2020.
