HONOLULU — For the eighth consecutive year, Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center has been named one of America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics by Women’s Choice Award®. Presented by WomenCertified, Inc., this evidence-based designation scored Moanalua Medical Center in the top 8% of 4,728 U.S. hospitals offering obstetrics.

The America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics list compiles data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) surveys. The list awards additional points based on the following factors: presence of a level 3/4 neonatal intensive care unit; early elective delivery rates between 0 and 1%; baby-friendly facility designation; and below-average infection and surgical complication scores.

“At Kaiser Permanente, we value the safety of our pregnant patients throughout their prenatal and postnatal care journey,” said Alexa Sueda, MD, chief of obstetrics and gynecology at Kaiser Permanente in Hawaii. “Our Family Birth Center at Moanalua Medical Center is designed to ensure that new and hopeful parents receive exceptional care and support. We’re proud to be recognized as a leading hospital for obstetrics in the U.S.”

The Family Birth Center at Moanalua Medical Center provides coordinated labor and delivery care in a safe and comfortable setting, facilitated by a team made up of the patient’s obstetrician-gynecologist, certified nurse-midwife, neonatologist, and other care providers. New mothers and their families enjoy a personalized birth experience with private delivery suites, mother-baby rooms, room service, and labor aids such as a birthing ball and hydrotherapy tub. Moanalua Medical Center makes breastfeeding support and education a priority for new parents and was the first hospital in the state of Hawaii to receive Baby-Friendly designation by Baby-Friendly USA, a World Health Organization and UNICEF initiative.
