James Oliva brings national and international experience in health care security and threat management to new role at Kaiser Permanente Hawaii.
HONOLULU — Kaiser Permanente Hawaii has hired James Oliva as regional threat management officer, responsible for administering a regionwide threat management program encompassing Kaiser Permanente’s Moanalua Medical Center, health care facilities, service areas, and health plan. He collaborates with risk management, quality, patient safety, workplace safety, compliance, member services, and legal departments to manage potential threats and ensure the safety and security of employees, members, and their families.
Oliva has national and international experience in health care security and threat management. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, he worked in health care consulting as a director of security risk management and served as a program manager at Providence St. Joseph Health, where he developed a corporate security program in line with regulatory mandates from government agencies and other organizations. Internationally, he has led foreign and American security operation teams for private, multi-national organizations, the U.S. Department of Defense, and the U.S. Department of State. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps and as a police officer for the Los Angeles Police Department.

Oliva holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Phoenix and an MBA from Azusa Pacific University. He is completing his PhD in global leadership and change at Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology in Malibu, California.
