Kaiser Permanente Colorado sets bar for U.S. health plans

National business group bases rating on important care measures.

Kaiser Permanente Colorado has been recognized by a coalition of business groups for setting the standard for high-quality care across the nation.

The National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions ranked Kaiser Permanente Colorado’s commercial HMO the “benchmark plan” in the nation for overall performance and the best performer in Colorado for 3 specific modules in its 2018 eValue8™ survey.

The survey is a national, standardized health plan evaluation created by business coalitions and employers across the country, including Marriott, General Motors, and the Colorado Business Group on Health. Kaiser Permanente Colorado ranked more than 10 percentage points higher than its nearest competitor in setting the national benchmark. It was also rated the best plan in Colorado for helping members:

  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Manage acute/episodic conditions
  • Get and stay healthy

Kaiser Permanente Colorado was also recognized as a strong performer in:

  • Managing overused procedures
  • Managing diabetes
  • Having low rates of opioid misuse
  • Having low rates of elective deliveries

Employers use eValue8 to compare health plans based on local and national benchmarks, to identify results-oriented disease management programs, and to develop targeted strategies for improving the value of their health care investments. Data for the survey is drawn from 13 organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and the National Committee for Quality Assurance.
