U.S. News & World Report, the global authority in hospital rankings and consumer advice, has named Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center as a 2022-2023 high-performing hospital for its specialty in pulmonology and lung surgery, as well as 7 procedures and conditions. This is the highest award a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals procedures and conditions ratings.

The annual procedures and conditions ratings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures.

Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center earned high-performing ratings for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, heart attack, heart failure, hip fracture, pneumonia, and stroke in recognition of care that was significantly better than the national average, as measured by factors such as patient outcomes.

“At Kaiser Permanente, we use advanced research and innovative technology to consistently deliver leading patient outcomes,” said John Yang, MD, president and medical director, Hawaii Permanente Medical Group. “Our highly qualified physicians and other health care professionals take a team approach to coordinating our members’ care and meeting their individual health needs. We’re proud to offer high-quality care to our members that’s recognized on a national level.”

For the 2022-2023 Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. Fewer than half of all hospitals received any high-performing rating, and only 4 earned this rating in all procedures and conditions. State and metro area rankings reflect the highest performing hospitals in the area across multiple areas of care. All 39 of Kaiser Permanente’s hospitals were rated “high performing” for one or more measures.

The U.S. News procedures and conditions methodology is based entirely on objective measures of quality such as survival rates, patient experience, and how successfully each hospital helps patients get back home.
