National Alliance bargaining begins

Kaiser Permanente and the Alliance of Health Care Unions kick off negotiations with focus on collaboration.

Kaiser Permanente and the Alliance of Health Care Unions kicked off negotiations for a new national agreement on May 6 in Los Angeles.

Labor Management Partnership chairs Arlene Peasnall, Jim Pruitt, and Hal Ruddick opened the 3-day session, emphasizing collaboration and trust-building, and addressing health care challenges together.

Representatives from Kaiser Permanente and the Alliance shared partnership successes and challenges on topics such as unit-based teams, affordability, and career development. They also met in subgroups to discuss bargaining priorities and identify common interests around staffing and patient care, partnership effectiveness, and artificial intelligence and technology. In addition, they reviewed important elements of interest-based negotiations, which promote creative, mutually beneficial solutions.

The Alliance national agreement expires on September 30, 2025.

Bargaining sessions are scheduled through the summer. The next national bargaining session will take place June 3 to 5, 2025.
