Interns tell Indeed they love working for Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser Permanente leads Indeed’s list of Top-Rated Workplaces By Interns, with perks including health benefits, leadership exposure, and professional development.

At Kaiser Permanente, our internship programs are an investment in our future workforce. Bernard J. Tyson, Kaiser Permanente’s chairman and CEO, joined Kaiser Permanente as part of a graduate student residency program in 1984 and is a testament to an intern’s potential for success. We take this investment—and our commitment to giving our interns a challenging, supportive experience—very seriously and have developed extensive programs to support their learning and success.

Kaiser Permanente’s intern program scored highest overall amongst U.S. companies in Indeed’s 15 Top Rated Workplaces for Internships survey. Indeed is an employment-related search engine for job listings, and Kaiser Permanente was the only health care organization to make the cut, ahead of other highly regarded companies including The Walt Disney Company, Target, Starbucks, and Amazon.

To determine the rankings, Indeed analyzed 72 million ratings and reviews to identify companies with the highest ratings from interns.

The Kaiser Permanente interns who participated in the survey rated Kaiser Permanente highly in the following areas:

  • Variety: Challenging and meaningful work that kept them busy and engaged
  • Planning Ahead: Supportive managers who invested time to create a positive intern experience from start to finish
  • Pay and Perks: Paid internships, and perks such as health benefits, leadership exposure, and professional development opportunities

Reen Samady, now a senior consulting data analyst for Quality and Operations Support in The Permanente Medical Group, appreciated many aspects of the elements of the internship program, “I loved the networking opportunities during the internship,” said Samady. “We participated in a lot of group activities where we really got to know our fellow interns and learn about the departments they were working in I would highly recommend Kaiser Permanente’s internship program.”

Marcos Guevara, now a learning consultant for Kaiser Permanente’s Health Plan Institute, said, “What I liked the most was that it felt like an actual program. Most other organizations just call you an intern and pay you less, but you start right off doing the job with minimal training. Kaiser Permanente’s intern program was the opposite, it was a well-oiled machine.”
