We urge the House to ensure that the Medicaid program is adequately funded.
Medicaid is critical to the stability of the U.S. health system. Medicaid gives millions of Americans access to the front door of the health care system and reimburses providers and hospitals for needed care. It helps keep people healthy and provides for those with acute and chronic care needs, supporting the overall health of all communities in the U.S.
The legislation passed by the Senate on July 1, 2025, includes enormous cuts to Medicaid funding and restrictions on eligibility that will cause millions of people to lose their health coverage.
Without the ability to pay, newly uninsured people will find themselves having to delay care leading to more serious and complex health conditions, increasing the use of emergency services and more intensive medical services. This will affect all of us as the cost of this uncompensated care leads hospitals and care providers to charge paying customers more to cover their costs. Some hospitals and providers, especially those in rural and underserved areas, will be unable to make up for these unreimbursed costs, and will be financially threatened by these changes.
We urge the House to change the bill to fund the Medicaid program adequately, sustainably, and flexibly through the federal and state partnership — and ensure that our U.S. health system remains stable and able to support good health for all.
