BARGAINING UPDATE
BARGAINING UPDATE
On January 29, Kaiser Permanente in Southern California and NUHW met for the 23rd time to continue new contract talks. The meeting resulted in the parties reaching a tentative agreement on Educational Leave. Kaiser Permanente also offered proposals on Union Staff, Associates, and Shop Stewards.
Several noneconomic and economic issues remain open and need to be settled before a new contract can be reached. We believe that, through ongoing, meaningful discussions, we can achieve an equitable and sustainable agreement that benefits our members and our NUHW-represented employees.
January 29 marked the 100th day of NUHW’s strike in Southern California and, given a cross rate of approximately 50%, some NUHW-represented employees may be beginning to wonder about the union’s approach to reaching a new contract and why it is taking so long.
The parties’ re-engagement in January provides an opportunity for Kaiser Permanente and NUHW to accelerate the pace of bargaining, increase the level of engagement, and resolve the issues needed to reach a new contract. We encourage NUHW to take advantage of this opportunity to engage in meaningful and productive dialogue at the bargaining table in a manner that will be conducive to reaching an agreement.
The next scheduled bargaining date is Thursday, February 6.
