People and purpose

We help employees and doctors grow in their careers, stay well, and work together to improve care.

At Kaiser Permanente, our employees and doctors define who we are. Their skill, compassion, and commitment shape how we care for our members and communities every day.

To support our people, we build an inclusive workplace. We want all our employees and doctors to feel valued and respected — and have the opportunity to grow and do their best work.

Career advancement

We invest in helping our workforce build meaningful careers.

Each year, tens of thousands of employees learn new skills, earn new credentials, and move into higher-paying roles through training, hands-on experience, and new job opportunities.

We also support continued education through tuition reimbursement and education trusts created with our labor partners. These trusts offer:

  • Coaching
  • Courses
  • Financial help
  • Job training, including apprenticeships

In 2025, nearly 40,000 employees participated in our 3 education trusts — more than 1 in 4 people who were eligible.

We’re also building the next generation of mental health professionals. Our Mental Health Scholars Academy teams up with schools that offer mental health degrees and provides mentorship and supervised clinical hours. As of 2025, the program had supported 181 active scholars and 244 graduates.

Our efforts to support employees earned us recognition.

  • LinkedIn named Kaiser Permanente to its Top Companies 2025 list. The list highlights the 50 best workplaces in the U.S. for career growth.
  • Handshake recognized us with a 2025 Early Talent award. This award recognizes employees for recruiting and supporting new professionals.

Healthy workforce

We’re committed to supporting the physical and mental well-being of our workforce.

To reduce stigma around mental health, we launched training to increase awareness and give employees practical tools to support themselves and others. By the end of 2025, more than 85,000 employees had completed the training.

We encourage physical activity as a way to improve health, strengthen connections, and support well-being. In 2025, more than 32,800 employees and doctors participated in our physical activity programs.

Our national Mental Health Advocate Network helps bring these efforts to life. It connects and empowers employees who are interested in spreading mental health and wellness education within their local departments. Advocates share resources, encourage open conversations, and help create a stigma-free workplace. At the end of 2025, 820 advocates were active across Kaiser Permanente.

In 2025, Kaiser Permanente earned Mental Health America’s highest recognition: the Platinum Bell Seal for workplace mental health. With a score of 92%, we joined a select group of organizations recognized for leading practices in mental health support.

Spotlight on veterans

Kaiser Permanente has a long history of hiring and supporting veterans.

We hire from all branches and levels of the military and offer programs that support hiring, retention, and career development. Our Veterans@KP business resource group advocates for veterans and helps strengthen connections within our workforce and the communities we serve.

Our commitment has earned national recognition. For 10 years in a row, Kaiser Permanente has been named a Military Friendly Employer.

Labor partnership

Organized labor is central to Kaiser Permanente’s past, present, and future.

Our Labor Management Partnership is the largest and longest-running partnership of its kind in the nation. Together, Kaiser Permanente and partnership unions work to improve care and service, make care more affordable, and operate more effectively.

Much of the partnership’s day-to-day work happens through self-directed teams called unit-based teams. These teams include patient-facing employees, managers, and doctors. They help solve problems and improve care and the workplace.

We have more than 3,800 unit-based teams focused on:

  • Improving affordability
  • Strengthening safety
  • Enhancing service
  • Advancing quality
  • Making Kaiser Permanente a great place to work

This work leads to meaningful improvements for patients, employees, and our organization.
