Reaching more communities

We’re finding ways to help more people get high-quality, affordable care.

For more than 80 years, Kaiser Permanente has delivered high-quality care and found new ways to improve health. But we only operate in 8 states and the District of Columbia. That means fewer than 1 out of 20 Americans can access our care and coverage.

To reach more people, Kaiser Foundation Hospitals created Risant Health in 2023 as a nonprofit organization.

Its vision is to improve the health of millions of people by increasing access to value-based care and coverage. Risant Health brings together nonprofit community-based health organizations that share a commitment to value-based care.

With Risant Health, we’re extending our mission beyond where we currently operate. And, we’re pushing back on some of the profit-driven pressures in U.S. health care.

Risant Health organizations

In 2024, 2 health organizations officially became part of Risant Health: Geisinger of Pennsylvania and Cone Health of North Carolina.

Organizations that become part of Risant Health continue to serve their local communities. At the same time, they gain access to shared expertise, tools, and support through the value-based platform delivered by Risant Health.

When these first 2 nonprofit health organizations became a part of Risant Health, the transactions were structured as member substitutions — not purchases — and did not involve a purchase price.

Value-based care

Value-based care is a way of delivering and paying for care that helps improve health outcomes and increase access to affordable care.

It uses proven, evidence-based care practices and keeps care simple for patients, employers, and clinicians. It also helps ensure everyone is working toward the same goal: helping people stay healthy.

Value-based platform

Risant Health and its organizations provide the tools, technology, and services needed to deliver value-based care and improve health outcomes.

The value-based platform makes the right thing to do the easy thing to do. It brings together clinical knowledge, technology, workflows, and operating models from Kaiser Permanente and Risant Health organizations to support the adoption of value-based care.

It’s designed to improve health care experiences for patients and clinicians, making it easier for people to get the right care when they need it, regardless of their health plan or practice model.

The results speak for themselves. In a New England Journal of Medicine Catalyst article published in early 2026, Risant Health reported:

  • A 47.5% reduction in overnight stays in the emergency room
  • A 13% improvement in wait times for procedures
  • 700 more specialist appointments available each month

These results are based on early work with Geisinger.
