Phyllis Doulaveris, DNP, CPHQ is senior vice president, National Patient Care Services, and chief nurse executive for Kaiser Permanente.

At Kaiser Permanente, our extraordinary nurses deliver compassionate care and have an enduring commitment to our patients and members. During National Nurses Week 2023, which begins May 6, we celebrate and thank them.

Throughout the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, our nurses’ commitment has been especially inspiring. Even in the face of tremendous adversity and personal sacrifice, they’ve upheld the professional practice of nursing and sustained a culture of excellence.

Making a difference with so many people, in so many ways

Our highly skilled nurses are essential to the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care at Kaiser Permanente. They improve outcomes by coordinating care and educating patients. They identify and implement ways to advance the practice of nursing through new ideas, research, and technology.

They are leaders, researchers, innovators, and scientists who are improving the health of our members, patients, and communities. Our nurses work in advice and appointment call centers and emergency rooms. They provide care in the home, and before and after surgeries. They care for babies, children, adults, and pregnant people. They help provide mental health care. Through the advancement of technology, they even care for us by using remote video tools.

These are just a few of the places and ways in which our nurses help our members get well and be well.
