Emma Steinberg, MD

Emma Steinberg, MD, is board certified in pediatrics and is also a chef. She completed medical school at Johns Hopkins University and pediatrics residency at University of California, San Francisco in the PLUS: Pediatric Leaders Advancing Health Equity Residency Program. She currently is a pediatric hospitalist and teaching attending physician at Kaiser Permanente Northern California for pediatrics residents and UCSF medical students.

Before entering the medical field, she trained as a chef at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City and worked in the food industry, including teaching the Cooking Matters curriculum.

At Kaiser Permanente, she also teaches culinary medicine to UCSF and visiting medical students, consults for the early-intervention pediatric obesity program (called YOU Thrive), and helps teach healthy cooking classes to patients and staff through Kaiser Permanente’s Thrive Kitchen. Dr. Steinberg draws on her training in medicine, health care systems, nutrition, and culinary arts in the community as an advisory board member for San Francisco Unified School District’s Urban Agriculture Career Academy and as a Champion Provider fellow.
