Local athletes received medical exams at no cost at Kaiser Permanente Mapunapuna Medical Office during MedFest 2025 in February. The annual event is hosted by Kaiser Permanente in Hawaii in partnership with Special Olympics Hawaii. Now in its 15th year, MedFest provides comprehensive physical screenings to ensure athletes of all ages are prepared to train and compete safely in the games.

Athletes from schools and clubs across the island received their physical examinations from Kaiser Permanente physicians, pediatricians, registered nurses, and nurse practitioners. They checked athletes’ vision, height, weight, blood pressure, and cardiovascular and musculoskeletal health. Kaiser Permanente also provided healthy snacks and giveaways to attendees.

“MedFest is more than just a check-up — it’s about ensuring Special Olympics Hawaii athletes can compete safely, stay active, and develop healthy habits that last a lifetime,” said Benjamin Chun, MD, clinical director of Special Olympics Hawaii MedFest and Sports Medicine for Kaiser Permanente in Hawaii. “We’re proud to continue this partnership and look forward to cheering on the athletes in this year’s games.”

“We are thankful for the continued partnership of Kaiser Permanente and their support, which allows us to hold MedFest events throughout the year, ensuring that our athletes are healthy and ready to train and compete,” said Dan Epstein, president and CEO of Special Olympics Hawaii. “Their trained and skilled teams do a great job of making this experience fun and easy for our athletes and their families and we cannot thank them enough.”
