High blood pressure dramatically increases the risk of heart attack and stroke. Kaiser Permanente is committed to defeating this silent killer — and we’re succeeding.
Nearly half of the U.S. adult population has high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. There are no obvious symptoms, and many people are unaware they have the condition. But if left untreated, high blood pressure dramatically increases the risk of heart attack and stroke.
At Kaiser Permanente, we’ve made it our goal to defeat this “silent killer.” We screen all members for high blood pressure, and if a problem is found, we support them in getting their blood pressure under control with lifestyle changes or medication. Our electronic health record helps keep members on track.
These efforts have helped Kaiser Permanente achieve some of the best blood pressure control rates in the nation. Some 80% of our members with hypertension have the condition under control, compared to 60% of patients with hypertension nationally.
