Boys and Girls Clubs receive $100,000 for teen programs

Kaiser Permanente in Hawaii has awarded $100,000 in community health grants to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Maui and Hawaii. The grants will support teen programs that prepare youth between the ages of 13 to 18 to achieve success in high school and beyond. 

Boys and Girls Club of Maui will receive $50,000 for its Leaders in Training Program. The program aims to prepare youth living in Maui County to be first-job ready by developing a plan for post-graduation education or careers and building skills valued by employers. Two hundred student participants in the LIT program will participate in mock interviews, attend on-the-job skills development programs, and receive assistance creating resumes.

Boys and Girls Club of Hawaii’s What’s Next Initiative will receive a $50,000 grant. The cohort-based case management youth development program serves teens identified as needing extra support to reach their full potential. Participants on Oahu and Kauai will receive mentoring through high school that addresses a variety of needs, including mental and physical health, post-secondary education, workforce development, career exploration, and basic life skills. The What’s Next Initiative goals include achieving 80% of participants reporting an increase in their confidence and feelings toward education and academics, and 100% of participants having a plan after graduating high school.
