Glazed and crispy Brussels sprouts

These tasty Brussels sprouts are great for Thanksgiving or any other time.

Try this simple recipe for glazed Brussels sprouts for Thanksgiving or any other time. One of the helpful aspects of this recipe is that some of the preparation can be done ahead of time requiring just one burner with high heat close to dinner time. Eat more of these than the other creamy, fattening dishes and feel better after.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 small red onion, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup apple juice or cider
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil.  
  2. Add the Brussels sprouts and simmer for 7 minutes. Drain them.  
  3. About 15 minutes before dinner, heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium high heat until shimmering. Add the garlic, red onion, and saute briefly.  
  4. Add the Brussels sprouts and apple juice. Cook, strirring occasionally, over high heat until the apple juice has evaporated and the Brussels sprouts are tender, browned, and somewhat crispy. Serve hot.
