Married for 65 years, Marvin and Mary know the importance of getting their flu vaccinations.
Marvin and Mary Wenzel, both Kaiser Permanente members in Kern County, California, have been married for 65 years and know the importance of getting their flu vaccination every year.
Mary Wenzel contracted a serious case of the flu in the early 1970s that lasted for a very long time and later developed into pneumonia. She recalls missing 5 weeks of work at that time.
Influenza is associated with severe illness, hospitalization, and death, particularly among older adults, young children, pregnant people, and people of all ages with certain ongoing medical conditions. Influenza also leads to missed days from work and school.
“Kaiser Permanente has really taken care of us. We have been with them for more than 30 years. We are very happy with Kaiser Permanente,” said Mary Wenzel.
Simultaneously, Mary and Marvin Wenzel both said, “It is better to stay healthy. We enjoy traveling in our motor home and we are ready to get back on the road!”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends yearly flu vaccination for everyone 6 months and older, with a higher-dose flu vaccine preferred for adults 65 years and older.
The Wenzels went to the walk-in flu clinic at Kaiser Permanente Ming Medical Offices in Kern County to receive their safe, convenient, and no-cost higher-dose flu shot.
Tell other Kaiser Permanente members, your family, and friends about the benefits of staying up to date with the flu vaccine — especially those with the highest health risks, including Black people, Latinos, and adults 65 and older. It is perfectly safe to get the bivalent COVID-19 booster dose and flu shot at the same time.
Get your flu shot today to protect yourself and others — and keep living life to the fullest. Flu shots are safe, convenient, and available at no cost at our Kaiser Permanente locations.
