Taejoon Ahn, MD, is the chief executive officer and executive medical director of the Washington Permanente Medical Group.

In this role, he leads WPMG's physicians, physician assistants, optometrists, midwives, psychologists, and other clinicians in delivering high-quality, coordinated care to 562,812 Kaiser Permanente members across Washington state.

Dr. Ahn is a physician executive with deep experience leading large, physician-led organizations. Prior to joining WPMG, he served as vice president and then president of John Muir Medical Group, where he led a multidisciplinary medical group of more than 350 clinicians. He helped strengthen collaboration between physicians and health system leaders to improve patient outcomes and access to care. Earlier in his career, he held leadership roles in urgent care and primary care delivery, driving clinical excellence, innovation, and operational performance.

In addition to his executive leadership experience, Dr. Ahn has remained committed to medical education and public health. He has served on the faculty of the HIV/AIDS National Clinical Consultation Center at the University of California, San Francisco, and continues to serve as an assistant clinical professor of Family & Community Medicine at UCSF.

He also served on the California Academy of Family Physicians board of directors, Medical Practice Affairs Committee, Audit and Compliance Committee, and chair of the Legislative Affairs Committee, and on the California Medical Association’s Specialty Delegation and Council on Legislation.

Dr. Ahn earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, where he also completed his residency in family and community medicine. He holds a master’s degree in public health with an emphasis on epidemiology from the University of California, Berkeley. He is an alumnus of the California Health Care Foundation Leadership Fellowship and a certified physician executive through the American Association for Physician Leadership (formerly the American College of Physician Executives).
