Mike Bowers, FACHE, is the regional president of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals of Northern California.

In this capacity, Bowers oversees all of Kaiser Permanente’s care delivery and health plan operations in Northern California. As the area’s largest nonprofit health plan, Kaiser Permanente provides care for 4.6 million million members through its 21 hospitals and 203 medical offices across Northern California.

Prior to his current role, Bowers served as the senior vice president for health plan and hospital operations for the region. In his role, Bowers also supported workforce management and operational efficiencies, leading a diverse and multifaceted portfolio of strategic initiatives, and coordinating national shared services.

Bowers brings over 25 years of progressive leadership responsibility and executive experience in large, integrated health care systems to Kaiser Permanente. He is an innovative leader with distinct experience in operations and financial management, business and service line development, physician relations, board development, and organizational performance improvement. Bowers’ ability to effectively motivate, communicate, and build relationships with his teams has resulted in stronger company cultures that maximize performance across the organization.

Before joining Kaiser Permanente in 2022, Bowers held a range of executive leadership roles across several health systems. He served as regional chief operating officer for the St. Louis and Southern Illinois regions of SSM Health; president of SSM Health St. Joseph Hospitals in St. Louis; chief operating officer and chief strategy officer for Dignity Health’s Central Valley Region; senior vice president at Community Hospital Corporation in Dallas; and various executive roles at Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston.

Bowers holds both a Master of Healthcare Administration and Master of Business Administration from the University of Houston at Clear Lake and a Bachelor of Science in biological sciences from the University of Pittsburgh. He is a fellow in the American College of Health Care Administrators and serves on several community boards.
