Ed Chan, RD

Ed Chan, MHA, RD, FACHE, is president of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals in Hawaii.

He directs all health plan and hospital operations and works closely with the leadership of the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group to improve the health of 271,782 members in Hawaii and their communities. In this market 4,615 employees work with 536 Hawaii Permanente Medical Group physicians to deliver high-quality care through the Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center in Honolulu and 21 medical offices and clinic locations on Oahu, Maui, Hawaii, and Kauai.

Chan is also senior vice president and chief operating officer for Kaiser Permanente Southern California health plan and hospitals. He was named to both positions in April 2024.

He joined Kaiser Permanente in 2014 and has held leadership roles at both the medical center and regional level. Prior to his current role, Chan served as senior vice president and area manager for Kaiser Permanente East Bay, one of the largest service areas in Northern California.

Before joining Kaiser Permanente, Chan held a variety of leadership roles at Aramark, a provider of health care ancillary services to hospitals and health systems. Over a 10-year career with Aramark, he led teams at prestigious academic medical centers such as University of California San Diego Health, Vanderbilt Health System, and the Duke University Health System. Chan's enthusiasm for building high-performing teams, coupled with a reputation for delivering results, has led to his many leadership roles across the country.

A registered dietitian, Chan began his health care career as a hospital dietitian. He earned his Bachelor of Science at the University of Delaware and his Master of Healthcare Administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Chan is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, serves on the board of ACHE — Hawaii Pacific Chapter, and is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
