Throughout our history, Kaiser Permanente’s commitment to labor has been prominent, dating back to the 1940s when we provided prepaid health care for our largely unionized workforce at the Kaiser shipyards.
In 1997, Kaiser Permanente and the Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions established the Labor Management Partnership to find a better way to work together to create opportunities to grow membership, improve quality, and make health care more affordable for everyone.
And it worked. That’s why Kaiser Permanente continues to have one of the largest unionized workforces in the United States.
Kaiser Permanente also maintains a collaborative relationship with our other Labor Management Partner union, the Alliance of Health Care Unions, as well as professional relationships with multiple non-partnership unions such as the Guild for Professional Pharmacists and the California Nurses Association.
