We are committed to bargaining in good faith to reach a fair and equitable agreement that supports our employees as well as our patients, while furthering our mission to provide high-quality, affordable care.
The current contract with the Coalition expires September 30, 2023.
The Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions is one of the 2 union groups that participate in the Labor Management Partnership and is comprised of 12 local unions located in 7 of the 8 Kaiser Permanente regions.
2023 Coalition bargaining includes one National Agreement that addresses aspects of bargaining, such as wages and benefits, that are relevant for all employees, as well as multiple local contracts that tend to focus on working conditions that are unique to a particular union or market.
The Labor Management Partnership was established in 1997 as the solution to strife between Kaiser Permanente and its unions. Under the partnership, management and labor agree to work collaboratively to improve the quality of care for Kaiser Permanente’s patients and the communities we jointly serve, while positioning Kaiser Permanente as a leading health care provider and ensuring job security and a best place to work for thousands of employees.
Kaiser Permanente firmly believes that negotiations are best conducted at the bargaining table. Out of respect for the bargaining process and our union leader counterparts, and in compliance with the law, we will engage our employees’ union representatives with all matters related to bargaining. We recognize the importance of this information to our internal and external stakeholders and aim to be a source of transparent information at the appropriate time.
Nearly 80% of Kaiser Permanente’s employees are represented by unions, 80% of whom are represented by a partnership union, either the Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions or the Alliance of Health Care Unions. The remaining represented employee population is represented by non-partner unions.
