Kaiser Permanente Northwest Community Health initiatives critically and sustainably impact the communities where we live, learn, work, and play.
Community health programs help people experiencing health inequities access health services by developing relationships; listening and responding to community needs; and addressing the clinical, social, economic, and environmental factors that affect people’s health and ability to thrive.
Kaiser Permanente Northwest Community Health invests in the total health of our entire region to further our mission of providing high-quality, affordable health care services to improve the health of our members and the communities we serve.
Through community partnerships and collaboration, our vision is to be a trusted partner in total health, help people to thrive, create communities that are among the healthiest in the nation, and inspire greater health for America and the world. Community health is not the work of just one department or team, but of our entire organization.
In order to better understand the needs of each community we serve and to help strategically and equitably allocate resources, we regularly conduct a Community Health Needs Assessment. This process not only informs our community investments — helping us make a long-term, sustainable impact — but it also allows us to strengthen relationships with partner organizations and holds us accountable to our mission as we work together to improve community health.
In our 2023 Community Health Snapshot, read about the stories and numbers that illuminate the impact Kaiser Permanente is having in the Northwest.
At Kaiser Permanente Northwest, we cultivate thoughtful partnerships with local organizations that align with our mission and promote the mental, physical, and social well-being of people in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Many of these partnerships are created through our grants and event sponsorships that support vital community programs and services and address issues that affect the overall health of the community.
Being engaged in communities across the region enables us to better care for people’s health. Our community engagement efforts seek to strengthen the vital work of community-based organizations and promote goodwill within the community. We know that when we listen and share knowledge and ideas, we can develop innovative solutions to the challenges we face.
Kaiser Permanente Northwest employees, physicians, and dentists are actively involved in giving back and helping to shape communities for the better. Our programs offer staff opportunities to connect with and get involved in the causes they care about — be it through our annual giving campaign, volunteerism, nationally recognized days of community service, or leadership on the board of a community-based organization.
