Stephen Curry's resilience overcomes pressure in TV ad

How does Stephen Curry, point guard of the Golden State Warriors and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, handle the stress of driving toward another championship?

Kaiser Permanente’s latest TV ad — premiering Saturday, April 8, 2017 — focuses on our commitment to help all people develop resilience by highlighting Curry’s approach to remain “calm, strong, focused” to overcome challenges.

Resilience — which helps us adapt well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats or significant sources of stress — is not just built in from birth. Becoming more resilient involves behaviors, thoughts and actions that can be learned and developed over time.

Campaigning toward total health

In January 2015, Kaiser Permanente announced a first-of-its-kind, multiyear partnership with the NBA to build healthier communities and to serve as the health care expert and consultant on health and wellness programming for the league.

The new TV ad launches Kaiser Permanente’s campaign to address the importance of taking active steps to prepare to deal with significant challenges. A series of intimate interviews with Stephen Curry and, at a later date, the Los Angeles Clippers’ Chris Paul on Kaiser Permanente’s social media channels will support the effort.

Throughout the campaign, Kaiser Permanente will prompt people to share personal stories of dealing with pressure and how they’ve developed their resilience. Both Curry and Paul will encourage their fans to join the conversation by using the hashtag #trainthemind.
