Kaiser Permanente teaches parents to create safe sleep spaces for newborns.
Each year more than 3,500 infants in the United States die while sleeping, often because of unsafe sleep environments. Kaiser Permanente is working to change that with an effort that uses a simple slogan to educate parents and caregivers: “The ABCs of safe sleep.”
The slogan reinforces the basics of sleep safety: Babies should sleep alone, on their backs, and in a crib.
Caregivers are also cautioned to avoid overdressing infants, smoking nearby, or putting additional items like pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals in the crib.
