Speed dating: 5 minutes to smoothie love

Want a date? How about three? In under five minutes? No, we're not talking about matchmaking; we're talking about smoothie-making.

This smoothie recipe uses dates as a natural sweetener, which makes it a great choice when you want to satisfy your sweet tooth without the guilt.

It's also great when you need a speedy, filling, and nutritious breakfast on the go.

Feel free to experiment with the ingredients a bit: Try it with avocado for a heart-healthy twist, add some protein powder for a post-workout snack, or add a pinch of flaky sea salt to the chocolate smoothie to add some savory to your sweet.

It's easy, worry-free and fun — which is more than we can say about actual speed dating. Enjoy!

Servings: 1 glass

Prep time: 2 to 10 minutes

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 3 dates, pitted and roughly chopped (nutrition analysis uses Deglet Noor dates)
  • 1/2 ripe banana, sliced and frozen
  • 1/4 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Ice cubes (optional)
  • 2 cups spinach (optional for a green smoothie)
  • 1 tablespoon cacao powder and cacao nibs for garnish (optional for a chocolate smoothie)

  1. If you're using dried dates, soak them in water for 10 minutes to hydrate.
  2. Pour almond milk and chopped dates into a blender and blend for about 1 minute or until smooth.
  3. Add banana, Greek yogurt, vanilla extract and ice (for a colder smoothie) and blend until well-combined.
  4. Take a sip and fall in love.
