There are nonprofit organizations in many communities committed to helping people get good food on their tables. The food bank in Oakland, for example, provides enough food for 300,000 meals per week. Other programs work to help people in need to get access to the federal supplemental nutrition programs. The work of these nonprofits requires lots of support.
Nationally, Kaiser Permanente invests over a billion dollars per year keeping its commitment to improve the health of the communities it serves. Its $2.1 million dollar grants to nonprofits in 2009 to help bring more healthy food to people is a part of that larger commitment.
Good health starts with good food and I am proud to be part of an organization that supports that concept in very real ways.
