TORRANCE, Calif., — Maziyar Shoaee, MD, has been appointed physician in charge of Kaiser Permanente’s Torrance Medical Office. In his new role, Dr. Shoaee will serve as the chief physician of the outpatient clinic, which has 26 physicians and 68 nurses and care staff.
“Dr. Shoaee’s years of leadership in quality management, peer review and utilization management will serve him well as the physician leader of our Torrance Medical Office,” says Barbara Carnes, MD, area medical director for the Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center.
Dr. Shoaee joined the Southern California Permanente Medical Group in 2012. He replaces Tracy Imley, MD, who accepted a new role as director of Complete Care for Kaiser Permanente’s South Bay Medical Center earlier this year.
“I look forward to leading our outstanding team of physicians and staff as we foster a culture of caring and excellence at the Torrance Medical Office,” says Dr. Shoaee. “It’s critical that our members continue to recognize that we are their premier medical office as we prepare for the implementation of health care reform next year.”
Board certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Shoaee earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix. He is fluent in both English and Persian.
Prior to joining SCPMG, he practiced with Talbert Medical Group in Long Beach for nine years, including four years as a member of the board of directors. He also served concurrently as a hospitalist at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and St. Mary Medical Center. Earlier in his career, he held positions at Family Care Center and San Luis Obispo General Hospital.
A resident of Palos Verdes Estates, Dr. Shoaee’s activities outside of work include piano, electric guitar, soccer and snowboarding.
