Kaiser Permanente appoints new director of employee and labor relations

headshot of james preusserHONOLULU – Kaiser Permanente has hired James Preusser as the new director of employee and labor relations for the Hawaii region. He will provide support and leadership in labor relations and employee relations, which encompasses workforce engagement, progressive bargaining strategies, contract negotiations and union matters. As a member of the regional human resources leadership team, Preusser will also oversee Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action programs, and ensure Kaiser Permanente is in compliance with state and federal employment regulations.

Preusser began his career at the Walt Disney Company, where he held several leadership positions in numerous departments over 18 years, including consumer products, merchandise operations, labor management, labor operations, labor relations and workforce recruitment. He joined Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California region in 2013 as a senior labor relations consultant and was promoted to regional manager of labor relations in 2015. There, he provided labor relations expertise and consultation to management throughout the Northern California region on a wide range of complex health care labor issues.

“Jim’s extensive experience in labor and employee relations, and ability to maintain positive relationships with key partners, will be a valuable asset to our human resources team,” said Jean Melnikoff, vice president of Human Resources at Kaiser Permanente Hawaii.

Preusser holds a master’s degree in management from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri, and bachelor’s degrees in management and marketing from McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois.
