Second medical office to open in Colorado Springs

New centrally located Parkside Medical Offices to open in January 2015.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Kaiser Permanente Colorado, the state’s largest nonprofit health plan, today announced it has chosen the location for a new medical office building, centrally located in Colorado Springs. The Parkside Medical Offices at 215 Parkside Drive will provide convenient access to primary care, laboratory, pharmacy and routine medical imaging services, all under one roof.

The Parkside Medical Offices will open to Kaiser Permanente members in January of 2015. This is the health plan’s second medical office building in Colorado Springs and the third in Southern Colorado. Kaiser Permanente’s Briargate Medical Offices are located on the north end of town. The new Parkside facility will provide members with an additional option to access Kaiser Permanente’s health care services.

“We wanted to bring a new medical office building to this community and the central location, across from Memorial Park seemed ideal,” said Holly Kortum, Kaiser Permanente’s executive director of operations in Southern Colorado. “Our Parkside Medical Offices will make it easy to see a doctor, pick up a prescription or have blood work done all in the same place. We think the Colorado Springs community is going to love this new facility.”

While specific staffing plans are still in the works, the new Parkside Medical Offices will employ approximately six health care professionals, including two to three physicians as well as nurses, technicians and administrative staff. Interior construction on the 20,000 square-foot facility is tentatively scheduled to begin in August.

“The Parkside Medical Offices bring primary and specialty care closer to you,” said C. Rocky White, MD, Kaiser Permanente’s Southern Colorado market medical director. “We are bringing more of our integrated care delivery system to our Southern Colorado members. If you need to have routine preventive screenings, have lab work or medical imaging done, or get a prescription filled — it’s all here. We are meeting you where you are.”

This is the latest component of Kaiser Permanente’s new expansion plans for the Southern Colorado service area. The expansion began in February 2014 when Kaiser Permanente opened its Briargate Medical Offices to all ages and added specialty care services in Colorado Springs, including allergy care and dermatology. Rheumatology and adult medical genetics will be phased in later this year and additional specialties will be introduced within the next few years.

The health plan continues to add members in Southern Colorado and more than 4,000 Southern Colorado residents have joined Kaiser Permanente Colorado through the state’s health insurance marketplace, Connect for Health Colorado. As Kaiser Permanente increases its services in Southern Colorado, the health plan is exploring new health plan options for employer groups, families and individuals. These plans will accommodate different budgets and allow Kaiser Permanente to offer a full suite of options for all ages and incomes.

Kaiser Permanente consistently ranks among the top health plans in the nation for quality and customer satisfaction. According to the 2013-2014 National Committee for Quality Assurance’s Insurance Plan Rankings, Kaiser Permanente is the top rated commercial health plan in Colorado. Kaiser Permanente Colorado’s 2014 Medicare plan received 5 stars from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the program’s highest rating.

In Southern Colorado specifically, Kaiser Permanente has launched innovative, personalized care programs, such as Kaiser Permanente Hospital Medicine at Memorial Central and North Hospitals, and Kaiser Permanente Care Connections.

Kaiser Permanente is dedicated to improving the health of its members and the communities it serves. In 2013, Kaiser Permanente donated approximately $500,000 to Southern Colorado nonprofit and community-based organizations; continued its $1 million commitment to provide scholarships and loan repayments to allied health and nursing students in Southern Colorado who elect to spend two years working in safety net clinics following their graduation through the Care Equity Project; and issued a $130,000 donation to the American Red Cross with funds specifically earmarked to support the Pikes Peak Chapter.
