A new medical center in Prince George’s County, MD, by 2020

New state-of-the-art facility in Bowie, Maryland, will accommodate growing membership in region.

ROCKVILLE, Md. — Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States plans to open a new state-of-the-art medical center in Prince George’s County, Maryland in 2020. This new medical center in Bowie will support the growing demand for Kaiser Permanente’s award-winning health care and coverage.

Located at 5404 Hillmeade Road in Bowie, the 45,558 square-foot Kaiser Permanente Medical Center will provide primary care, behavioral health, optometry, pharmacy, laboratory and imaging services.

“Kaiser Permanente is proud to add another high-quality medical care center to serve our members who live and work in Prince George’s County,” said Kim Horn, president of Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States. “We are proud to be part of the Prince George’s County community, and we will continue investing in its residents and their total health.”

“Prince George’s County welcomes the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center to Bowie, making it Kaiser Permanente’s fifth medical facility in the county,” said Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III. “Over the last eight years, one of my administration’s top priorities has been to attract high-quality medical providers to the county. No other private health care company has invested more into the health of our residents and communities than Kaiser Permanente. We are very thankful for their partnership and appreciate their continued commitment to enhancing access to quality health care for the people of Prince George’s County and the region.”

This Kaiser Permanente Medical Center is scheduled to open in 2020 to provide best-in-class health care to members in the area. Kaiser Permanente has experienced significant membership growth in Prince George’s County — from 99,000 members in 2013 to nearly 140,000 members now.

“Our physicians have been involved in the design of this medical center to ensure that our patients receive the highest quality care,” said Bernadette Loftus, MD, associate executive director of The Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group, which provides care for Kaiser Permanente members in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. “When they come to this new medical center, patients can not only expect the extraordinary care that has earned Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States the No. 1 spot for quality in the nation, but they will also experience the ease of care that comes from having pharmacy, radiology and a laboratory located in the same building.”

Kaiser Permanente is committed to creating a healthy Prince George’s County for all residents. In 2017, the organization invested nearly $10 million in the county to support a variety of community health programs, including one that has placed seven nurse practitioners in community clinics, increasing health care access for more than 21,000 residents.

The organization is also helping to foster school environments that enable teachers and students to thrive. Our school grants program provided $2,500 grants to 25 schools for teacher wellness initiatives in Prince George’s County in 2017. We are also helping create future economic opportunity for youth by investing in college and career readiness and internships programs for nearly 3,000 high school students.

This is the latest in a series of new facility announcements by Kaiser Permanente.

In June, Kaiser Permanente announced plans for two new medical centers in Northern Virginia. These new medical centers — which will be in Stafford and Haymarket — are scheduled to open in mid-2019 to provide world-class health care to members in Virginia.

Kaiser Permanente also announced its new 40,000-square-foot Alexandria Medical Center at The Exchange in the Potomac Yard area of Alexandria, Virginia. This will be the first Kaiser Permanente medical office building in Alexandria and is scheduled to open in spring of 2019.

In addition, Kaiser Permanente will be the premier tenant occupying 176,000 square feet in a new 200,000-square-foot administrative building, which will have room for approximately 850 employees, in the New Carrollton Transit Center in Prince George’s County. Construction of the administrative building is expected to be completed in November 2018.

Kaiser Permanente has been recognized nationally and regionally as one of the top health plans for excellence in patient care outcomes.
