HONOLULU — Kathleen “Kate” Roche, MS, RN CENP, has joined Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center as chief nursing executive. She oversees all nursing and designated patient care services within the hospital, provides strategic leadership for all nurses at the hospital, and develops procedures and policies to ensure high-quality, efficient care and integration of treatment and services to meet the needs of Kaiser Permanente’s 250,000 members in Hawaii. Roche also represents nursing and patient care on the hospital’s executive leadership team and with labor partners.

Roche comes to Kaiser Permanente from Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York, where she served as senior vice president and system chief nursing officer, as well as the hospital’s chief operating officer. Prior to that, she served in several leadership roles, including COO, at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, an integrated health care delivery system in Hartford, Connecticut. Roche spent 17 years at Rockford Health System in Rockford, Illinois, climbing the ranks from coordinator of emergency nursing services to president and COO of a 490-bed hospital. She started her career as a critical care nurse providing clinical care to patients at university and community hospitals for over 10 years.

“Kate offers a wealth of experience, having served as a clinical care provider, administrator, and nurse leader at hospitals and health care systems throughout the country,” said Sam Balukoff, hospital administrator at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center. “She will play a key role in ensuring our patients continue to receive high-quality care and treatment. She also supports and represents our nurses, nearly a thousand of them, who are essential to patient care and experience.”

Roche earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut, and her master’s degree in medical-surgical nursing from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. She was selected to participate in the Johnson & Johnson/Wharton Fellows Program in Management for Nurse Executives, a nursing leadership program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Roche is certified in executive nursing practice, a certification for nurse executives from the American Organization of Nurse Leaders.
