Organization recognized for its workplace health and well-being programs.
For the third year in a row, Kaiser Permanente is being recognized for taking significant steps to build a culture of health in the workplace. This year marks the second time Kaiser Permanente has been recognized as a Gold-level honoree, the top level in the 2018 American Heart Association Workplace Health Achievement Index.
“It is an honor to be recognized by the American Heart Association. Kaiser Permanente believes in the importance of building a culture of health in the workplace to ensure our employees are inspired to live healthier lives,” said Kaiser Permanente Chairman and CEO Bernard J. Tyson.
The Workplace Health Achievement Index was created in partnership with the Association’s CEO Roundtable members, and uses science-based best practices to evaluate the overall quality and comprehensiveness of a company’s workplace health and well-being programs.
“Our aim — to support the people of Kaiser Permanente in living healthier lives — helps ensure that we provide the high-quality care and service that our members and the communities we serve expect,” said Kathy Gerwig, vice president of Employee Safety, Health and Wellness, and environmental stewardship officer of Kaiser Permanente. “It’s more than supporting our workforce with programs and interventions; it’s about taking a strategic approach and engaging with employees to learn more about what they want in health of mind, body and spirit.”
A unique feature of the index is that it calculates an average heart health score for employees of participating companies that securely submit aggregate health data. More than 1,000 companies completed the assessment this year. Kaiser Permanente was one of 186 companies to achieve the Gold level.
Tyson is a member of the Association’s CEO Roundtable, a leadership collaborative of more than 40 CEOs from some of America’s largest corporations and organizations. Together, these CEOs lead by example to create and sustain a culture of health and well-being in the workplace by collaborating on best practices and measurable new strategies for employee engagement.
